Eating Kirkgate Market

Supported by

Shining a light on the unique murals and 70s architecture of Bradford’s Kirkgate Market, we brought this to life through ice cream and sound at a pop-up Edible Archives studio.

Harry and Sonia spent months researching and exploring the concrete murals in Kirkgate Market made by international artist William Mitchell. We created a soundscape featuring interview snippets with Dr Dawn Pierra, Aaron Law, Lisa Brown and people working in and passing through the market.

Ice lollies were set in moulds 3D scanned from Mitchell’s murals in Kirkgate Market and used flavours inspired by concrete and building materials, and the colours and names of Mitchell’s other sculpture works. We served 300 ice creams in one day.
