DRINKING SOWERBY BRIDGE
We created a pop-up bar serving two bespoke mocktails inspired by the heritage and stories of Sowerby Bridge. The drinks were served with a riso printed zine featuring poetry rooted in our research into local industrial heritage and visions of the future of the town. The installation included projections of the waterways and dressed room that gestured to the industry of Sowerby Bridge.
Originally commissioned by Sowerby Bridge Fire and Water as part of the Heritage High Street Action Zone Cultural Programme funded by Historic England and Arts Council England

Set
Part bar, part workbench, we used a selection of tools, fabrics, and heritage bottles to create an industrial-feeling space. We projected videos of waterways in Sowerby Bridge onto the set.

Audio
The soundscape wove together captured audio of the waterways of Sowerby Bridge and poetry inspired by our research into the heritage of Sowerby Bridge.

Menu
Our playful drinks menu took inspiration from the town’s historic public drinking trough, and was alcohol free - a nod to the temperance movement’s history in the area:
The Sowerby Sour
Inspired by the waterways and optimism of the town. A lemon kombucha and passionfruit based punch topped with berry, beetroot and chili sorbet which diffused into the drink. The Foundry Fizz
An industrial elixir with dandelion & burdock, topped with a torched black pepper marshmallow cloud & a coal sprinkle. Someone told us “this tastes of the north”…!
People
132 people experienced this installation.
Collaborations
We sourced ingredients locally from Artichoke Wholefoods, and interviewed residents of Sowerby Bridge when developing our installation.
